The Canadian Diabetes Association recently recommended that type 2 diabetics only be allowed 200 test strips PER YEAR! Now our doctors have cut back our prescriptions drastically. For some, its down from 200 per month to 200 per year! Thats one test every other day, instead of the previously recommended 5 tests per day. For those on multiple shots of insulin per day, it went from 300 down to 200 per month. If someone you know has diabetes, please stand up to the CDA and let them know that this is NOT enough! Let the CDA know we are NOT happy about this poorer standard of care. I posted in response to this post by the Canadian Diabetes Association, if this reduction in test strips affects you or a family member or a friend, please respond, so we can let them know that we are NOT happy about the reduction in test strips to unreasonable levels. This is a money saving tactics, NOT a life saving tactic. Its all about the bottom line, saving the government money. They dont care if we get complications sooner or die younger, as a result of less testing, and loss of good blood sugar control.
