He basically did it all by himself. Do you know London cycling lobby groups feel this is a major embarrassment because its a perfect example of build it and they WONT come. The trouble with Stevenage was that the town planner did such a good job that even the cars are safer there, which means people drive in safety and with ease. But, that was done in the 1950s. Since then, the town has been growing and increased demand on the travel infrastructure will mean more cyclists, and the bike infrastructure is already there. What I dont get is why Londoners dont make this a day trip destination for cycling enthusiasts. Its close enough to London that it would be a perfect place to explore and enjoy by bike and cyclists can learn what good cycling infra looks like.
