https://youtube/watch?v=RPK7t5B2UN4 Really worth watching, a troubling example of xenophobic rhetoric employed by Fox News to increase the divide between cultures for economic interests. To add a bit more background: Rupert Murdoch is not only the owner of Fox, but also a major shareholder of Genie Energy, an Israeli-American energy company which was granted exclusive exploration and drilling rights on the Golan Heights (businessinsider/israel-grants-golan-heights-oil-license-2013-2). The Golan Heights is a region in southern Syria, practically annexed in 1981 by Israel and not recognized by the UN. As such, the rights given by Israel to an American company to exploit natural resources in the area are legally questionable the least (the Annex to the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits such exploitation by an occupying state) and benefit largely from the instability in the region, as peace agreements between Syria and Israel would likely see the Golan Heights being returned to Syria. Next to Rupert Murdoch, on the board of advisers of Genie Energy, is former Vice President of the United States Dick Cheney (fastcompany/1704559/boogeymen-trifecta-murdoch-allies-oil-company-cheney). Cheney has made recent headlines for supporting the interrogation methods of the CIA (theatlantic/politics/archive/2014/12/dick-cheney-defends-the-torture-innocents/383741/), methods that include torture, which delivered false confessions of detainees that were used to justify the invasion of Iraq in 2003 on claims of possession of WMD (huffingtonpost/andy-worthington/the-ten-lies-of-dick-chen_b_153514.html - see number 10). After the invasion of Iraq, Halliburton, one of the worlds largest oil field service corporations, and its then subsidiary KBR, got exclusive government contracts for providing support services, like rebuilding infrastructure, which have hauled in over 39 billion USD according to an analysis from 2013 (readersupportednews.org/news-section2/308-12/16561-focus-cheneys-halliburton-made-395-billion-on-iraq-war). Coincidentally Dick Cheney was the Chairman and CEO of Halliburton between 1995 and 2000. In that context, it becomes scarily obvious how mainstream-media-induced hatred and fear-mongering against Muslims serves the purpose of justifying ongoing military interventions in Islamic countries which create opportunities for their exploitation by the very owners of those media corporations and other political figures with huge stakes in the industry. History repeats itself. And yes, there is always an economic angle.
