He was from Ranger, Tx. my AuntandUncleJohnny and Juanita Bates had helped sponsor him and they insisted i go, when i had just got out of h.s., to hear and meet him in a musical production honoring him. Saliminio? was with him on the trip to perform at the high school auditorium (big baptist church sponsored) of his home town in70 or 69 just after they had done broadway production and were about to do movie i think. In about 76 I took a opera star from over at TWU that was in the Choir and a singer/performer from Houston to see him in the movie. His range and strength at any pitch was really astounding. Sh!e later took me with some of her people from drama/opera class to see the Opera in Dallas Auditorium with Dallas Symphony orchestra and Opera of Tristan and Isolde, it was 5 hrs. long. Pretty cool but pretty long and somewhat boring in places - all in Italian
