https://youtube/watch?v=lSsq_j2euig My 150 Favourite Songs of All Time, Number 86, Something in The Air – Thunderclap Newman, 1969 Pete Townsend was behind the formation of Thunderclap Newman as an out let to release songs written by drummer and singer Speedy Keen, Thunderclap Newman was the name of a Jazz pianist who Townsend recruited to join the band, he is responsible for the strange off kilter instrumental part near the end of the song, the lovely sweeping acoustic guitar along with Speedy Keens high falsetto voice make this an amazing song, it’s even more amazing that it reached number one in UK, the song is a call to arms capturing the mood of the times and a swing towards thoughts of revolution rather than the earlier hippie love and peace. It was their only top 40 entry so they became known as a one hit wonder, Which doesn’t stop it being a truly great song.
