https://youtube/watch?v=oXS72201ojE. This is another low point in Robin Williams career. I admit I never saw the film, but this trailer gives me so many reasons not to. And with 7% at Rotten Tomatoes, it was worth skipping. Upon watching the trailer, one question pops into my head: who would go through with this priests commands? What couple would allow him to bug their house for such unorthodox practices? A couple in reality would say: No, we are gonna have a normal wedding in a normal church performed by a normal priest!! But then thered be no License to Wed. Its one of those movies that would only work if every character within its fictional universe was an IDIOT. A lot of comedies in the 2000s were like that. Especially romantic ones like License to Wed and Failure to Launch and What Happens in Vegas. In fact, the romantic comedy genre died out because writers and directors kept lowering the bar. Thankfully, idiot comedies are few these days. Oh theres still stupidity in comedies but less that feels forced. And the romantic comedy genre is slowly repairing itself with Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. So, the next time you enter a church and the priest is played by a famous comedian, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!
