Lenience on large or talented juveniles? Like any Freedom, when you exercise it in excessive, ugly, threatening, or evil ways, prepare to suffer the consequences. We do the children a favor when we catch the actions when still in the form of mere speech. Send the rude and profane a real message. It will save us and them. The way that many people (and lawyers) exercise this freedom to use dark and thoughtless, angry, premeditated or instinctive words and deeds ... it needs to be punished. We need checks and balances, slaps on the wrist, before the words lead to actions and it all ends like it did for this talented kid or perhaps the late Mike Brown. I want a tough set of alternative schools where we can send the teens in need of a boot camp rehabilitation. I want cops and teachers to have the authority to send offending children to these schools. It should not be left to the discretion of the unfit parents who raised them. We wait far too long to punish these kids. When we finally do, its too late and too brutal. Maybe Tony and Mike deserved what they got but they deserved a better warning, a loud wakeup call, several years before.
