i am an introvert. i am shy. i am fairly quiet when im not on anywhere (and my kids arent driving me crazy!). so i have wanted, more than once, to delete my posts on what the events in ferguson have brought to the surface. i have wanted to go back to being just an artist who doesnt post often on her facebook page- especially not about current events. i have wanted to go on with my normal bi-cultural life in the burbs where ive experienced and witnessed quiet racism from time to time but nothing that im not used to (except a personal restaurant experience and a local cross burning case about 1 1/2 years after i moved here in a nearby town.). but, then i remember Whose i am and the Body i belong to, and i just cant remain silent. those of us who claim to be Christians- no matter what our political preferences, ethnic identities, life experiences- know that first and foremost, forever and ever, we belong to God. we have eyes to see beyond the chaotic surface of situations to the heart of the matter, like our Father does, if we want to see. we have ears to listen to the heart cry that goes deeper than what people are saying out loud, like our Father does, if we want to hear. i think about verses like Ephesians 1:19-20 and 3:20-21 and Phil 2:13 about Gods power at work in and for His people so that they can be the salt and light they are meant to be. and, spiderman fans, you know what peter parkers uncle said about great power, right? so i will continue to champion individual believers power against the ills of racism in our country as an overflow of my eternal identity.
