i dont usually do this, but heres my spiel for the year. tonight i accidentally walked into the last half hour of a panel being held by the people who organized the protest against condoleezza rices invitation to speak at commencement. i was really inspired by what they said about wanting to make administrative decisions at rutgers more democratic and ensuring that the students voices are heard. i know that i am part of a large demographic that talks about wanting to see change, but doesnt actually have the guts or the confidence to try and do anything about it, so i have a lot of respect for these people that stood up and spoke out when they had something they cared about. i hope that this is the first step towards a lot more student-led protests and debates in the future. no matter what all of our individual ideas and beliefs may be, we as students need to realize that we do have a powerful say in what happens in the world around us, and that its time for us to start speaking up. tl;dr: students like us really can change the world, we just have to start trying.
