i have always thought the gay question could be addressed - TopicsExpress

i have always thought the gay question could be addressed differently than through a harsh law.but i also know that the culture and religious framework of uganda does not encourage the gay issue at the moment.it may over time but for now it probably is a hard sell.now what the constitutional court did yesterday was just to remind parliament that they should pass laws properly.with two thirds majority (quorum).their ruling is not in defense of gay rights.there are three scenarios that can come out of this: 1.kadaga will call up all the mps and they vote again to pass the law (this time with two thirds majority) 2.parliament will simply abandon the idea because of the pressure uganda is going through at the moment 3.museveni will decree that the law is the law and so it stays...which ever way it goes, the court ruling today had nothing to do with the protection of gay rights.it has everything to do with the procedures of passing a bill.for those genuinely in defense of gay rights, this is the time to perhaps lobby for parliament not to re-vote on the bill.
