i just listened to Dr Fuller jr and i must say that he makes a lot of sense even though i disagree with some of his views. When one looks at how many of us are trapped in the historical past as opposed to engaging the burning present his points become very relevant. The idea that we claim superiority in history does not give us the real tools to deal with the Capitalist system that still places us in chains; the fact that we assert that we are sons and daughters of kings does not alleviate our poverty nor does it equip us to deal with our economy exploitation and modern day slavery instead it makes us be sidetracked and deal with what are social aspects but not the real tool of enslavement; economics Many Black folk would rather invest energy in reinforcing their identity rather than address the economic system that underpins white supremacy. The reinforcement of the black identity is positive in the social sense but the question become; how relevant is it in the systemic exploitation sense; does simply asserting that you are the sons and daughters of kings and queens translate into your economic freedom ... i dont think so. Being black, proud and broke still leaves you in chains; whether your ancestors built pyramids in Egypt or had libraries in Timbuktu still leaves you broke and thus in chains. i think that by making the rebuilding of black pride and black identity the sum total of black emancipation African people have been misdirected and are focusing their energies where they are not addressing the real causes of their oppression; economics. One would have thought that the debates and thrust would be around economics and systemic change not just history or identity. I think identity politics serves white supremacists more than it serves oppressed black underclass of people; it is misguided and misplaced to be concerned about only about identity rather than the economy or systemic oppression.m that is in itself broad and multidimensional Black consciousness or awareness should be broad and multidimensional so that it challenges, opposes and changes a problem that is in itself broad and multidimensional, multi layered and complex. Angela Davis said it quite succinctly when she said “The idea of freedom is inspiring. But what does it mean? If you are free in a political sense but have no food, whats that? The freedom to starve?” the very same can be said about being black, proud and starving https://youtube/watch?v=tnM5ab7uFtY
