i lived at 47th and Pine Street in West Philly.....in a the perfect dream one bedroom apartment on the 10th floor of a once posh door-man-attended vintage 30s preserved art deco building called The Garden Court. i worked various jobs and shifts at The Reading Company Railroad and i made paintings out of bandage gauze and wire and red acrylic paint that looked like decaying body parts. i submitted applications for NEA art grants with slides of pink and yellow rose pictured playing cards that i would toss randomly onto my lovely parquet floors. and i was summarily rejected each year, probably because my resume was weak in formal art training and i had no former instructor to write me a letter of recommendation. it was probably the loneliest time of my life. before leaving for work each day i would stare out of my large picture windows into the distance and watch the elevated trains moving along Market Street a few miles away. watching those elevated trains gave me this beautiful sense of peace and harmony. ill never forget that feeling. quite often i was listening to this song. youtu.be/c3nScN89Klo
