i may be holding, and opening, the proverbial can of worms here, but... im sitting here looking at this lovely 114 page, color, nice paper, bi-monthly magazine dedicated to east nashville, The East Nashvillian. for those of us who appreciate a cool-looking, well-done magazine, it is quite beautiful, yall. its their guitar issue... says so on the cover and in the editorial. 22 east nashville guitar players... all guys. all very obviously serious top-notch, mega-talented guitar players... not rock stars, and not just country pickers, either. its a wide variety of talent. but, all guys. seriously? theres not one top-notch guitar player who happens to be a woman in east nashville? and thats more of a serious question rather than rhetorical, ok. i realize that guitar culture is often overwhelmingly male (hey, im married to one and guitar world is a staple in the porcelain library). but, nashville is chock full of guitar players... overflowing, even. is there not one woman who rises to the ranks of these 22 guys in east nashville? in all of nashville? .
