i noticed that many, if not all, critics of divine healing end up resorting to it when they face sickness beyond medical remedy. Conversely, some religious hypocrites who oppose medical remedy are seen in the dead of the night receiving treatment. This reminds me of the story of W C Fields. It reads: “W C Fields, a lifetime agnostic, was discovered reading a Bible on his deathbed. “I’m looking for a loophole,” he explained. I am not here to attack your faith and beliefs, but whatever you stand for, be open and sincere about it. Those that trust Jesus for healing should address obstacles that I am going to deal with. Hindrances to receiving divine healing include sin that has not been confessed. Sin is a blockade to the free movement of the Spirit of God. Clear the passage for the movement of the power of God by repenting of all sin. James 5:16 teaches thus: “Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Stand upright and God will hear your prayer from your righteous lips. Demonic oppression or bondage can be reason for failure to receive divine healing. In situations where demonic power is operative, the grip of the devil has to be broken and healing will flow. The story in Luke 13:11-13 clarifies. It reads: “And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” Notice that Jesus first broke the power of the evil spirit and laid His hands on her and she got healed. Fear or acute anxiety is a major contributor to blocking healing. Always trust in Jesus and expect Him to heal you. Don’t doubt His capability. Surrender to Him knowing He cares for you more than you care for yourself. Proverbs 3:5-7 invites you saying: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” You are safe in His hands. Philippians 4:6 adds: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Past disappointments may undermine your present faith. After you have tried everything else that you thought was the remedy, you may give up hope and lose inner drive and conviction that there is still a solution for you. The attitude of the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years should challenge you to believe for your healing. She had gone through everything but still believed that Jesus had a solution. Mark 5:26-28 records the story and it reads: “And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.” It is never over until God says so. I cannot presently exhaust all the obstacles here but it is my prayer that if you deal with the ones addressed here, you will be able to access the healing power of God. I have prayed that as you are reading, the power of God is touching you. If you have been fed with unbiblical teaching before, steer up your faith and realign your belief with the Word of God and you will receive healing. Sometimes the reason for the persistence of physical affliction in godly people is not readily apparent, continue believing. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. This means that He can still do what He did in Biblical times. I am always challenged by the faith of a fellow pastor I was with at college. He says that whenever He is called to bury the dead, he asks for permission to pray for the dead to live again after first asking all those who doubt to vacate the room. In some instances, God can choose to take His beloved saints to heaven during an illness. Always know that He promised never to leave you nor forsake you. You are going somewhere.
