i usually dont know how to explain how i get the smooth shade in my drawings but am airing it out the simplest way possible plus other tips. 1. Always draw what you see, not what you think...especially on the eyes. I usually see many artists messing on the pupil of the eye. 2. Use variety of pencils grades for good shading.Unless you are good at using the H series just use where possible but i suggest you stick to the Bs or soft charcoal pencils if you are into them. 3. DO NOT press the pencil too much on the paper. Control the pressure on your hand to balance your tones. Apply more layers of shades untill you get what you need. 4. DO NOT exergerate the highlights and dark regions. This will make your drawing look as if its burnt. 5. Avoid leaving lines on your drawing. Let tonal variation define bounderies, curves and edges (Unless they are part of the drawing is when lines are necessary otherwise just dont leave them visible. 6. Keep your drawing as neat as you can to avoid your work to appear like a rough work. Now that you have these tips in mind i think you can proceed to DRAWING!!!!!! LETS DRAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!!
