i was in a scouting family. My dad took over troop 32 in new jersey so i could be a scout. I was the troops first eagle scout. We were both in the order of the arrow brotherhood. Later my dad was a scout commissioner, and when he went to be a scout chairman, i was old enough to be a scout commissioner. We were the only father and son team in New Jersey. That made him proud. When i came to Vegas i took over the troop 325 for March 25th Greek independence day. i was able to get two boys to eagle scout out of a troop of six boys. One was disabled, and i rode him each day telling him when you go for a job they will see your disability first, but when they see Eagle Scout on your resume, then they will weigh that as more important consideration. My dad was still alive to see that. Your folks sacrifice a lot to raise you. Your greatest gift to them is to make them proud. Being in scouting together makes that happen for a lifetime. Scouting was a great way of learning self reliance and bonding with parents. As one Judge said.. He never saw an Eagle Scout in his court. If all boys went through scouting I feel the jails would be empty of any American Citizens for all boys would have great male role models.
