if National executive intervention is to succeed the direct election of 50% of the admin committee by the the rank & file is critical to reform of the NSW branch. The direct election of a portion of the NSW policy committee by the rank & file has established that on line ballots are secure and encourage participation and a sense of ownership. While union officials, staffers and pollies still dominate the policy committe most were selected and voted for by branch members. A distinct improvement on the farcical election of the admin committee at the annual conference where union officials direct rigged and orchestrated voting. The corruption of the political process by greed can be limited by scrupulous discolsure and conflict of interest procedures but the corruption of the process by those seeking power and position can only be effectively limited by structural reform....by empowering branch members with the democratic right to elect officice bearers that reflect their will and their aspirations. Good on the PM, Dep PM and the national executive for finally biting the bullet.
