illiam F. “Bill” Bolling Sr., 86 year old Checotah resident, died peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Friday, November 19, 1926 to Frank and Nona P. Thrasher Bolling on his father’s Choctaw Indian Allotment, south of Crowder, OK. Bill was raised on a farm and ranch and graduated from McAlester High School in 1944. On Tuesday, November 18, 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served faithfully until he received his Honorable Discharge on Tuesday, July 23, 1946. After his discharge, Bill attended college at Oklahoma A & M, Stillwater, East Central State University, Ada, and Southwestern State University in McAlester. Bill began working for the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs Agency Service and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. He later attended various U.S. Treasury & Dept. of Justice schools including Hofstrau University, Hempstead, Long Island, NY and the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. He later retired as the Resident Agent in Charge of the DEA in Oklahoma City in May of 1979 at which time he moved to the Pierce, OK area. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Nona Janice Bolling Robbins; A step-son, Donal Gentry and his sister, Margie Burger. He is lovingly survived by his son William F. “Bill” Bolling, Jr., and his wife Margaret of South Dakota; Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Viewing for Bill will be 9AM-7PM on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Garrett Family Funeral Home of Checotah with his family greeting friends from 5-7PM. Funeral Services with military honors rendered by the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Brush Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Gary McKeen and Reverend Tim Turner, officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester, OK with Dan Prater, Robert Prater, Jerry Killingsworth, Ed Winkle, Shiloh Dill and Rusty Martin serving as Casket Bearers. Leroi Jacobs, Elmer Crittendon, Jim Davis, Ed Davis, Barry Howell, Virgil Benefield, Randy Dill, Tim Newton, Billy Crosby and Ben Rosser serving as Honorary Casket Bearers. The family of William “Bill” Bolling, Sr., entrusted his care, services and burial to John & Kim Garrett of Garrett Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service 311 SW 2nd Checotah, OK 74426 (918) 473-2244.
