imagine being 16/17 years old, having the job of dissecting and duplicating Prince background vocal tracks. receiving demos every couple of weeks of his production, arrangements and vocal stylings. as a singer/musician, now imagine the excitement, the thrill and honor of hearing all this spread out through the studio board. tracks upon tracks of harmonies...bass notes to falsetto notes. tunes the world had not known. i had that opportunity while working with my friend Martika. its difficult to really express the level of intimacy and connection i felt while going through such a process. you can only imagine really what it was like. this went on for months and months. it was probably one of the most exciting experiences of my life, thus far. i learned so much. the information and spirit which passed through those speakers made a huge impact on my artistry. cut to.... he was adamant about Martika removing his vocals from the recordings. when she went to Minneapolis to play him what wed done.... he thought shed left him in the mix. we didnt.
