imdb/name/nm1961516/?ref_=nv_sr_1 An actor should always try to use a part of themselves when getting into a character. That doesnt mean be a real creep just because you have to play one!! What it means is that, you must find the humanity of any character you play, and if you play a kind person, then find something not kind about the person, to flesh out your character and make him/her more three dimensional. and it makes you more real and interesting to watch. Find something in yourself that will add to the character, even if its just a thought. Use your own imagination, and thoughts, and try to be yourself as if you were in the characters circumstances. Not always easy to do. Never play down to playing an evil character as those characters in fact dont actually believe they are evil. And when playing the nicest guy in the world, still understand that youre not perfect so try to show the humanity of your character. Imagination is key for playing parts that you couldnt fathom playing, in a million years fathom, so do your research on the character and their circumstances, and also use the other actor and listen very carefully to what they are saying, and then react. There are so many ways to play a character and each actor has to use what is best for him/her. What ever works is what I say. And of course, of utmost importance is being in the moment, and also being your character in the film/television/play. Without doing anything of danger to your fellow actors of course. Understand always that you are acting and though you may be much into the character, dont go over the edge. The becomes schizophrenia!! We dont want that!! Understand your objectives and what the stakes are also. And of course be justified in your actions at all times in your character. And also, very significantly, understand the text, the actual lines and dialogue of your character, and then of course use your own interpretation of the character, and make strong, bold, yet natural, and sense able, choices. The director can always reel you in if he/she feels it is not what he/she wants. Of course when just showing up in a film or dramatic television show or sitcom, for a two, three or four liner, sometimes just say the lines as real as you can, and dont be so concerned for character. In many of the smaller parts, the casting is about a certain look and essence, and you must fulfill that by just being natural and in the moment, and understand you are there to push the story ahead. Unless of course the two, three or four lines are humorous and then you can make a choice and go for it, and be funny. Even then though, you should play comedy seriously, as if you are not trying to be funny, and if the writing is good, you will come off as more humorous. Just some advice from someone who has been there, done that, and will be doing a heck of a lot more in the very immediate future!!!
