in response to Ray Rice... When tempers flare BOTH individuals should try to control themselves and refrain from initiating hitting or physically assaulting the other person. Both people are capable of restraining themselves by not hitting or assaulting in the first place. This idea that it is okay for a woman to initiate hitting a man, and he just needs to stand there or try to restrain her while she is beating the shit out of him, or vice versa is BS. However, the NFL should have given him a harsher penalty to send the message that domestic violence should be taken very seriously, and if he initiated the hit he should also be criminally prosecuted. Men and Women need to understand that if you initiate hitting or assaulting a man or woman its possible that you will get hit back. Knocking her out is a bit much because he would normally have the advantage pertaining to strength, but if you don’t want to get hit, then don’t INITIATE the hit. If spitting is considered assault and he spit in her face first, then she had a right to hit him. Just like if she spit in his face first, he would ALSO have the right to hit her. Another example, if he hit her first, she has a right to defend herself, and vice versa. Enough with the double standards: You can’t go around initiating ASSAULTING people, and if you do, regardless of your gender, you should be arrested and prosecuted. Keep your hands to yourself, if it is not for self-defense. People screaming that they need to be treated equally and then being shocked when they are. When you initiate hitting or physically attacking someone, ESPECIALLY if you are in a heated argument, you should expect to be hit back, regardless of whether it is two men, two women, or a man and a woman - the two individuals regardless of their gender are not thinking about how hard or soft they are hitting the other person. If the other person decides not hit back then so be it. But the expectation that you can assault someone without consequences because you are among a protected group (man or woman) is BS. Most Women or Men don’t want to be hit, period. A man should not be excused from initiating hitting or physically assaulting a woman, and vice versa – it’s about the principle of the issue and MUTUAL respect, regardless of gender.
