irpwa/2014/05/families-and-friends-of-pows-denied.html This morning, Maghaberry admins informed the POWs that due to the system being down, all visits were cancelled. The furious POWs were forced to phone their families (most of whom were travelling with young children) and tell them to return home. This had also happened earlier during the year but visits were not cancelled.Then, instead, all visitors had their hands stamped in lieu of the normal ticket supplied. The POWs argued this point and eventually they were told that the visits were back on. Visitors were then phoned and told to continue their journey to Maghaberry. Unbelievably, some 10 mins later, the POWs were informed that the visits were definitely cancelled and phone calls had to be made again to tell the visitors who had arrived at Maghaberry to leave the gaol without their visits and return home. This disgraceful episode has been handled extremely badly by the Maghaberry regime and the IRPWA would like to put on record their disgust at the antics of the administration which has left young families both out of pocket and frustrated at not having to be able to see their loved ones. We would urge all the families and friends of Roe 4 POWs affected by this to lodge a complaint to the Prison Ombudsman.
