is experiencing mixed feelings. I had a student stop by my office a few minutes ago to explain why he’s not attended class the last couple of days. The reason: he’s in the Air Force reserve and recently received word that he’s being deployed to Afghanistan in two days. He has withdrawn from all his classes and is delaying his education for a year. He wanted to tell me in person because he wanted to tell me how much he has enjoyed being in my class this semester. He indicated he hopes to be able to enroll in my section of the class next fall. While I was pleased to hear that I’m doing a good job, I wish it weren’t under these circumstances. I thanked him for his complement and coming by in person to tell me. I told him to take care and come back next fall. He said he would. I can only hope and pray that he’s able to do so.
