its funny what people think when you work in a fast food place. And even more funny when you tell them you do food preparation. So I tell them this: * we get half price to eat during our break. Theres no time to just go grab something, youre as busy as the customers are piling up. You need permission to go to the bathroom. You have to use their local tap water (dont even ask about the water quality up here). * youre just another body they can replace if you cant keep up * we do what we can to keep each others moral up because were all in the same boat. Even the managers cant just walk off. theyre up front dealing with customers, taking orders, filling bags, pushing the bags out the window ... even they have to do the potty dance for an hour before they can go to the bathroom * Prep person does more than just play with veggies all day ... my daily routine (in addition to getting baked goods going and boxed up, grabbing restock to keep the grill and friers stocked [a box of fries weighs 40 Lbs, a box of nuggets about the same]) and doing whatever else they call me to do ... The Prep Person at a Fast Food Restaurant: Parfaits ( 12 each morning, 32 Mon/Thur) Salads (about 20 each Mon/Thur) Lunch Prep (Playing with the veggies) Bottle Sauces (at least 2 of each) Sauce Guns (2 of each, + 2 trays) Condiments: mustard/ketsup, tortilla chips, seasonings Folding Tortillas for wraps Bread Rack Stock Sandwich Boxes and Wraps Grill + Frier Stock (patties, chicken, nuggets, fries, fish filets, special items) Bottle Sauces & Pickles at table for lunch prep Dressing Packets Sweeping Lunch Table Set Up (those veggies again) Grab Waste Cans / Count waste Exchange Bread Racks Breakfast Appliances turned Off / Moved Grab Breakfast Waste Put Away Breakfast Foods Fill Fries storage freezer + Back up veggie ingredients Prep Containers in Backwall Reach-in Count Breakfast Waste Clean Appliances Breakfast Stock: Walk-In Eggs, Burrito mix, Hotcakes, Melts Breakfast Stock: Bread Rack Salads & Parfaits (restock) Sweep & Mop Dishes So yeah, I have 6-7 hours to do all that every day
