ive commented on this before, but yesterdays John Lennon birthday commemorations reminded me what a cause-du-jour its become these days to trash John for his character weaknesses, as if his violent temper and abusive patterns should in someway denigrate his massive contributions to the culture and society. Before you jump on the John-bashing train, just remember that the only reason we have these things to hurl at him is because he publicly admitted and repented to these actions. He wanted the world to know, and did not want to be left off the hook. Thats someone with the courage to embrace his own contradictory flaws and allow himself to be understood as a messed up work-in-progress. And now we vilify him for it. Meanwhile the unwashed hipster masses go on worshipping people that have probably done horrific things in their private life, but lack the courage to admit it and incorporate it into their public persona. For better or worse? I dunno. But give John a break.
