ive got new work coming in the winter issue of the Virginia Quarterly Review (will post when essay is live). but from the Washington Posts write up of the new issue: • An African American named Thomas Chatterton Williams has a fantastically nimble essay inspired by the birth of his “white” daughter. “Is it possible to have black consciousness in a body that does not in any way look black?” he wonders. “I’ve spent the past year trying to think my way through the wholly absurd question of what it means for a person to be or not be black.” This delightful reflection is provocative but leavened with Williams’s charming humility about how unresolved these issues remain for him.
