just a word of thanks to Kieran OConnell as he makes his way back to Melbourne. Thanks for the unexpected session on last Thursday night/Friday morning in OCallaghans Bar & Guest House. It was one of those brilliant nights in Coachford Co. Cork when you go out for one pint and then 8 pints later you are still there and singing you head off and ignoring the fact that work is looming in another few hours. The night started off calm enough until Kieshy brought out the guitar and began a set of ballads, the atmosphere was great, the craic was good. It was like old times and all we were missing was Dan Dozy and Martín OMhurchú (God be good to them both) to transport us back to our days of youth. We were joined by Siobhan Barrett, another immigrant home for a few short days.for her nieces wedding and when she joined Kieshy to sing Leaving on a Jet plane it was both beautiful and poignant at the same time. Now as Barry ORiordan would say the day was coming together nicely. The session was gathering legs and a life of its own with those who should have gone home hours before, still there, rooted to their seats and having a great and unexpected night. Many more songs followed from the Australian troubadour including some of his own wonderfully penned songs. The highlight had to be the live rendition of Delaneys Pram especially seeing as Thady Delaney (who along with Kieshy pushed the pram down the hill) and Declan O Connell (one of the three crash test dummieswho were in the pram) were both in the bar at the time to hear it and then give their very own account of the runaway pram story which happened over 40 years ago. We wish Kieran and Siobhan safe return to their lives in Melbourne and Colorado and hopefully when ye return home to Coachford again well meet up and enjoy another Coachford session! youtube/watch?v=7MlA25qklBM
