just posted this comment on sake24: Medical Doctors is leaving South Africa by the hundreds due to horrific working conditions. This medical situation in Government Hospitals and Clinics is raising a lot of questions overseas, and therefore also makes our doctors flee overseas just to survive from the physical and mental abuse they experience in the Government Hospitals. People are placed un-attended in the passages of the emergency hospitals, from 3 to 8 hours before they were attended to. Doctors arrive on duty only to find there are still 30- 50 unattended patients from previous shifts. Nobody could receive a gastroscopy for over a year; due to broken equipment not repaired. The treatment which sick people receive in 99.9999% of Government Hospitals and clinics is shocking and disgusting. They are treated with no respect and humiliation is in the order of the day. Food in most hospitals is not good enough for a dog to eat and is served with a spoon, to humiliate and degrade patients. It is time for the Government to walk away from the concept of medical aid and private patients and hospitals, and make sure all patients are treated with equal respect, medication and proper treatment. Payment for medical treatment could be made by taking in account a certain percentage of income. Mr. Mandela donate more than 50% of his government paycheck to help children, why do the rest of government members not follow in his footsteps to make South Africa a better country?
