just saw on a news report nicola sturgeon and some other guy - TopicsExpress

just saw on a news report nicola sturgeon and some other guy talking about the immediate reaction of the glaswegians in and around the clucha and they were talking about what this says about glaswegians and how great glaswegians are and Im not disagreeing with that sentiment for a second, but part of me was thinking it wasnt glaswegians that ran to help people it was HUMANS and how much more positive it would be if politicians would talk about the heroism of HUMANITY and how HUMANS will do anything to help each other in their hour of need. And I know this is against the backdrop of the referendum debate and its St. Andrews day so politicians are obviously going to try to capitalise on this tragedy, but it got me thinking about what my opposition to independence is really all about. And I think it boils down to my feeling that people are placing too much importance on the accent and nationality of every player in this story. This is a small island. What difference does it make if some of the people voting on our laws have a slightly different regional accent to us. Can they have no possible understanding of our predicament? Is the UK not smaller than most US states? Is your place of birth really that important? Are the cultural differnces between here and England so VAST that we cant possibly be governed by people a few hundred miles away. Whenever I go to England I feel like Im in exactly the same country. We share so much. How will another layer of government solve all our problems? All the national/English press coverage of this terrible tragedy seems to be treating it like a national tragedy shared equally by all the parts of the UK. Why are we hellbent on seeing the English as puppet masters rather than equal partners? Why dont we have the confidence as a nation to see ourselves as equal partners. Is it not a fact that each of us has 1 vote, the same as every citizen of the UK. Why is it the only part of the UK that doesnt enjoy a devolved parliament is England. This is so blatantly unfair that I cant for the life of me understand why it isnt England that isnt shouting for independence. I think that will do. BANG goes my promise to myself to not post anything poltical on here! Tomorrow- Lech Walesa & the Poish shipyards
