just wanna share MY ARTICLE for my final exam.. WHO CAN BEST EVALUATE EDUCATION? By: MYRA P. LOCQUIAO Post-graduate Student October 25, 2014 Introduction Drawing a distinct line of demarcation between the Ideal and the actual world, defines the dualist. The Platonic state is ideal, exemplary; it represents man in the abstract ... To Plato, there was no natural sense on how men ought to live, education was to be the key to the construction of a better society; from the educated would arise the elite to rule society. Plato thought it essential that a strict threefold class division be maintained. In addition to the rulers, the Philosopher-kings, there were to be Auxiliaries (soldiers, police and civil servants) and the Workers (the rest of us). Putting it mildly, Platos view was that we are ineradicably social, and that the individual person was not, and could not, be self-sufficient. In fact, Plato parcelled up humans like so many animals that could do nothing for themselves unless they had constant and detailed direction from those who were to be their leaders (Plato,Stanford.edu.2009). The above statements which I borrowed from Plato stresses out that EDUCATION makes up a man/person. Truly, people generally believe that education will lead us to whatever we wanted to achieve in life. In addition, Education is defined in the dictionary as an activity of acquiring knowledge through instruction or teaching. Moreover, education is learning process which everyone should get....it is for developing human vocabulary, for developing sharp eye sight, and also for exercising the brain....education can also be for achieving something in life...and also to build hope.... Education is needed to develop human vocabulary, by reading books as this is also a part of some education and also a strong source of information.....there can be different categories of education....there can be singing education, dancing, writing, painting,....etc...etc...people can develop their vocabulary not by continuously reading books on and on without understanding anything but by reading slowly by understanding the inner meaning of it.... Education is used for developing sharp eye sight by reading newspapers, and in case of sports education, by giving reflex actions...you can also develop your eye sight and also be more alert...but there are many categories of education as mentioned before, but may sometimes be considered as one...but there is no fixed term of education so it is not considered as one here... Education is also used for exercising the brain by practicing maybe, maths, science, english, or any other subject by thoroughly revising it...by practicing english everyday by speaking it loudly... your brain can be fresh in that case.... But as education is important for us, there is a need to unstoppably improve education.....so, evaluation on how we should be educated and how we are supposed to be educated is a primordial concern… with that, my question is ---- WHO CAN BEST EVALUATE EDUCATION? Body Annually, plans to improve the quality of education in our country have always been a priority program of our government. Implementation of changes in the educational system has been increasingly employed aiming for achieving quality standard of education. Of each process of implementation, evaluation follows with the hope of discovering strengths and weaknesses for improvements. With that, it has always been a concern on my part as an educator if evaluation of the education and educational system in our country is effective. If yes, why do we need to change processes every now and then? If no, why do we limit effecting changes? And most importantly, if the answer is reluctantly yes or no, who then, can best evaluate education? I have here listed people who can possibly evaluate the education in our country, and for you to have something to think of, I will again ask the question, WHO CAN BEST EVALUATE EDUCATION? Education Experts in the Country? No doubt, they came from sophisticated and known schools. They are intellectually capable individuals having good educational backgrounds and reputations. Do you think they can best evaluate education? All this years we have been relying on what the education experts may say in terms of the education we have in the country. We always admire the way they share they what is called ‘EXPERTISE” along education. We ask them, believe in them, do what they say, and then we let them evaluate and give their feedbacks. We always believe in what they know and we do it. So, do you think they can best evaluate education? The DepEd/CHED Authorities are highly respected people. They are known to be conquerors in the educational field. They are the people we consult with whenever we have dilemmas in the academic arena. We follow instructions from them, carry out orders and the like. After which, they evaluate the educational system academic institutions employs. They evaluate the schools, the administrators, the teachers, the pupils. And then, write down every single comment they have, their suggestions, expert’s advice as we call them. And we always believe once we carry it out, it leads us to improvement. So, do you think they can best evaluate education? Government Officials works hard for the welfare of their people. They serve their people in ways that would warrant safety and all other else that are good. They are concern in the welfare of the whole society. They criticize things that are not good including how education is being provided. They evaluate and they have their say! So, do you think they can best evaluate education? The School Administrators/Principals/Heads/Master Teachers/Teachers are people who are “hands on” in the delivery of education in the country. They experience the bad, the good and the best sides of educational system/education in the country. They do the crafts relative to education, they conceptualize, plan, implement, and they evaluate. So, do you think they can best evaluate education? Parents are the primary stakeholders of educational institutions. Depending on their involvement, they are active partners of school administrators relative to the hope of reaching the goal of achieving quality education. They dedicate their lives in order to send their children to school. They do everything to support the education of their children and will not hesitate to commend/criticise the education that their children receive. So, do you think they can best evaluate education? Pupils/Students. They spend almost most of their time in school for education. They study, they play, they laugh, they cry, they learn, they experience so much of life in school. They have direct contact with the teachers, they experience how the administrators run the school, they experience implementation of the school policies and rules. They are moulded into better individuals in school. So, do you think they can best evaluate education? Conclusions Almost every person has their say when asked about education in the country. Be it about the system, the implementation, the process, the changes and others. What I wanted to convey in my article is that, almost everybody can have their contribution to improve education in our country, there’s no doubt about it. But then, we must develop a core group who sincerely cares about how this evaluation should go about, how it has to go on, and what needs to be done after. With that, I believe we can attain “QUALITY EDUCATION” goal. And so, who do you think can best evaluate education?
