ka-TUPians, FORUM ON FILIPINO YOUTH VOLUNTEERING FOR HIV AND AIDS The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) and the National Volunteer Month Steering Committee (NVM-SC), in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), the Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC) and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV), will hold a Forum on “Filipino Youth Volunteering for HIV and AIDS” on March 25, 2014, 8am to 4pm at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, Sta. Cruz, Manila. It is expected to gather about 100 youth participants from different youth organizations in Metro Manila who will be given the opportunity to express their commitment to volunteer in HIV and AIDS related activities. The forum intends to increase awareness on the right information about HIV and AIDS, its socio-economic impact and to initiate a continuing dialogue with the youth and those concerned with youth development on HIV/AIDS issues and concerns. A National Call to Action will cap the event, signifying youths’ readiness to respond and advocate the fight against HIV and AIDS. As HIV and AIDS cases in the Philippines have gone from “low and slow” a decade ago, to a “fast and furious” rate, government has taken alternative courses of action for its awareness campaign on the deadly virus and one that will particularly reach the youth sector. The Philippine HIV/AIDS Registry Report shows that of the 14,856 total reported cases of HIV in the country, almost 25% of it is composed by the youth with range of 15 to 24 years old.
