Srinagar, June 28: Just three months after he made an android application, 17-year-old Asif, a boy from Kashmir, has developed a social networking site, Live Kashmir, to connect Kashmiris globally. Asif Showkat Wani from Rambagh Payeen here has dedicated the website, “similar to Facebook but richer in features”, to the people of Kashmir. “The aim was to create an independent platform where Kashmiris could be connected globally,” the industrious11thstandard student told Greater Kashmirin an interview. “I made this website for my people,” he said. “I always wanted we should have our own social networking platform to connect with our brethrenacross the globe.” Son of a government employee, Asif studies non-medical with computer sciences at Sir Syed Memorial Higher Secondary School here. Asked how he had got the idea of making a website which looked similar to Facebook, he said, “I wouldn’t say the idea came by itself. Facebook indeed was an inspiration for me. But Live Kashmir has more features than any other social networking site.” The website contains rich features likemarket place, music section, poll, quiz, blog and forum. “In my website,users can go to the market section and have their items sold online. Similarly, other features offer excitingexperience,” Asif said. “I developed the site using scripting language from server side and from client I took help of java script, HTML and CSS,” he said. ”The website has been patented at the Digital Millennium Copyright Act,” he added. Asif is currently working on an android chatmessenger for Live Kashmir. “I have a dreamto work withGoogle,” he said, smiling. Asif has also received acknowledgementfrom world’s renowned software makers, Adobe company, and figures among the list of people “who have responsibly disclosed vulnerabilitiesin an Adobe desktop product.” Earlier, Asif developed an android application, Droid Explorer, which was hosted by Google Play. Rated at 5, Droid Explorer is a free, full-featured, tabbed file and application manager. The application has witnessed over 5000 downloads worldwide. Pertinently, the trend of making android games, applications and developing websites is gaining popularity in Kashmir. Recently, a 19-year-old boy developedan android game based on the basic principles of Physics. Earlier, a 23-year-old software engineer developed an Android application ‘Dial Kashmir’ that contains over 500 contacts of government and private departments. Previously, another young engineer developed an online platform where people can share and get any information regarding Kashmir.
