l Creating Artificial DOF through Alpha Channels l Have managed to buy a DSLR with kit lens but cant afford the high-end sharp lenses? If yes, then this post might be of your interest. Kit or other cheap lenses, that most of the photographers can afford easily, dont produce enough blur to make the subject stand-out in some circumstances. This is where Photoshop comes into play. It helps us to make dull and boring photographs interesting by adding Artificial DOF through Alpha Channels. One only needs to understand the usage of Alpha Channels, and to grab the concept of the Depth of Field in photographs- which can be done by going through this tutorial creativepro/article/photoshop-how-to-lens-blur-with-alpha-channels About the Photograph: I captured it months ago at Lahore Polo Club with 18-105mm at 105mm. The lens wasnt able to focus the subject due to the movement, and the quality wasnt good as well. A couple of days ago, when i was about to delete this image, i thought of adding Artificial blur in the background to make the out-of-focus subject stand out, and it worked quite well i guess. It indeed is not a great photograph but surely is better than the original. You can see the original one, and the Depth Map in comments section. Exif for Original Photograph f/5.6 Exposure- 1/160sec ISO-100
