l am thoroughly disappointed by thespians running around and making noise about World Theatre Commemorations. Is there something to celebrate? The truth that the very same people are afraid to confront is that theatre should have been celebrated in Bulawayo because they are doing something. In Harare thespians sit down and plot the downfall of practitioners who are doing something and they mastermind the closure of a venue. You make noise commemorating an art that people in Harare are deprived of? Its a shame. Before you commemorate or celebrate theatre day first confront your inner being and understand you will never be someone and sadly you never have his/ her ideas or worsestill execute ideas of someone. I attended the celebrations at Alliance but they were disjointed and that was a true reflection of the state of theatre in Harare. My clarion call is that celebrate names that have made theatre what it is now. Let me give you an example, there is no doubt that Godwin Mawuru the late contributed a lot to the development of the Zimbabwean film but we have young shallow minded who failed their ZJC and now call themselves Filmakers even on their facebook names. Shame on them for abusing a profession they have little knowledge about. Sorry for diverting but honestly Harare should not have commemorated rather they should have done a caucus meeting and iron out the syndrome of being someone. Celebrating theatre in Harare at the moment can be equated by celebrating the development of ice hockey in Kambuzuma.
