lake whatcoms max depth is 100 feet. crator lakes max depth is 2000 feet. it is the deepest lake in the us, and it is in oregon. i was flying in an airplane one time... to hawaii i think... and i could see crator lake, mount st. helens, and mt. rainier all at the same time. it was beautiful and i will never forget it. the deepest lake in the world is lake baikal in russia, its 5,387 feet deep. it contains 1,700 species of plants and animals... 2/3 of which can be found nowhere else in the world. 80% of the animals are endemic to the lake. endemic means this is the only place they can be found. indigenous means that they are from that area but can be found other places...
