last week i had to let go of someone who used to be a good friend due to his angry white man commentary on my posts. they were getting mean, and his rants made no sense. his last words were about how i post so much in-your-face liberal propaganda, and what was i actually doing about it? he is orange country republican through and through. nice house up in the hills, high paying job, no kids, surrounded by upper middle class luxury. and was scared that brown people were going to take it all away. but he made me think about my own actions/inaction. is my poetry enough? does it make a difference? then i got this message yesterday...from a friend who decided to attend one of my readings this last weekend in L.A.: Richard...no secret we do not see eye to eye in our politics. I am open to hear the other side. Have to happily say, you made a strong impression on my husband and me. Hard to express our feelings...(positive). My neighbor is elated over her new book and Mas Tequila. Hoping to have the privilege to see you again. Thank you and take care. i thank her for writing to let me know i shed some light on the other side of the issues, and maybe, just maybe, shell expand her views. and that is what its all about.
