leodis.net/display.aspx?resourceIdentifier=2010128_171554 - Now this was a pub!! - View of The Whip Public House located in Bowers Yard off Duncan Street. Between the wars it earned the reputation of boasting more beer sales than any other Leeds public house. Prior to the 1970s only men were allowed to frequent The Whip. The rule was relaxed in the 70s and ladies toilets were fitted out. From 1995, for a brief period, the pub was renamed The Fidlers Elbow. There was an outcry about the new name so Tetleys reverted to calling it The Whip once more, a more appropriate name for an old coaching inn.
