#lovecraft #thekinginyellow 8/11/2014- We started filming my screenplay for THE KING IN YELLOW project mid 2010. Right out of the gate the production encountered many harrowing issues, the worst being the sudden death of our longtime partner-in-crime and guiding hand Lori Maxson. She was the one amongst the DARKHAUS™ brood with the most experience (and helpful advice) and her departure really knocked our dicks in the dirt. We’ve rallied forth several times but the usual pitfalls of underground independent filmmaking came into play; Depression (mentally & financially) / Creative differences / “Actors” and their “talent” / Equipment ripped off / The main Producer gets divorced and arrested for various illegal enterprises all in the space of a week and suddenly now his lawyer is getting all our KING IN YELLOW cash / Also, several stinging & very clicked-on admonishments from the online Lovecraft/Chambers fan boys to not even attempt to film something called THE KING IN YELLOW/ My own feeble attempts to re-write my script to fit an ever dwindling production budget (I really made a mess of things, script wise) / Crew members disappearing / Drug addiction & several misunderstandings with local law enforcement (they still think DARKHAUS™ is an evil cult). You know, the usual problems… There’s been a lot of interest in Chamber’s KING IN YELLOW lately mostly due to HBO’s True Detective series. I personally have a love/hate relationship with that show. I thought the whole package was brilliant but I do feel that the writer sat down in front the Internet with a yellow note pad and skimmed pretty much all of his ideas from a wide array of sources. I’m not alone in this opinion. Our Chambers inspired piece, an update or synthesized homage you could say; THE KING IN YELLOW is currently sitting quietly in a dark room (In his house at Rlyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming”) it’s future totally uncertain. Money & time are the big hold-ups as usual. Slowly, I’m editing the hours of filmed material and we hope to put full scenes of THE KING IN YELLOW up online as if they were “Chapters” of a pulp novel very soon. Some say our project is cursed.
