maybe we end up being assholes sometimes cause we dont see things the way normal people do, but in some ways we are better than you. in some ways we are worse. just like the average person is better at some things, or worse, than others. i think its time the mental health industry stop trying to drug us, stop trying to cap on our limitations, stop bringing us down and making us focus on whats wrong with us, and start helping us focus on what is good and right about us. how about bringing some attention to the benefits of our disorder-- because we are all about focus-- autistics in general. ok, i have a bald spot. if thats all anybody talks about, it becomes all i see, and there is something wrong with me. i also have a really nice beard, can be very charming under favourable circumstances, and have i nice physique. i am very strong for my size, have a tiny bmi, etc. lucky for me, i focus on that. but the mh industry isnt about health.. its all about disorder, disease, and what is wrong with you. there are a few rebel agents ouy there, but mostly the very nature of that system is to focus on the problem. now, what if your nature causes you to focus to the Nth degree on anything brought to your attention. what you read, what people say, especially authority figures doctors, intelligent people etc? do you really think its helpful to point out our problems? cause i gaurantee an aspie, asd person, etc has already examined this their whole life. ok. i know im different. esp. those of us who can act pretty close to normal. how about bringing our attention to the benefits. cause there is no way you can understand me, or what i understand, unless you are like me. but anyone can see talent and hard work. but you dont see the struggle that goes on behind the scenes, behind this facade. there is a giant chasm between us that only we can see. it is very difficult to cross. i hope people will someday stop defining people and their personalities as disorders, and start looking at and bringing focus to the advantages of that some people have. i dont mind being called an aspie or autistic, high-functioning whatever. i strongly object to being defined as a disorder, because this isnt something we have. it is _what we are_. its not going away. and neither are we.
