message from Mohamed Fahmy I would like to express condolences to the Seif family and to Egypt for the loss of one of its pillars, a human rights lawyer that championed the voice of the poor, the oppressed, and left his soldiers to carry on his legacy to promote justice. The injustice that has left us, three Al Jazeera English journalists serving 7-10 years behind bars is unprecedented globally and speaks volumes of the pitiful status of the political arena in Egypt now regardless if you are a secular, Islamist, or a journalist trying to do your job. Peter Greste who only spent weeks in Egypt before his arrest served one month in prison with Alaa where he cherished the support Alaa gave him through English conversations communicated through the bars seperating them in the cruel dark cells of Luman prison. When Peter and myself reunited in another prison, we were sure that we would be freed before Alaa, so I asked Peter what is the first thing you will do in Egypt before heading back to Australia. He said, I will visit Alaas son and wife Now, that we are sentenced, we sit in prison measuring and assesing the political situation through sumbliminal indicators like the release of Alaa who has become a barometer of the political scene and the governments mood. Comic relief is important in prison in order to survive, so I ask Alaa, When you come back, make your way to our wing reserved for terrorists There is nothing comic about our case though. I dont expect a pardon or understand the empty diplomatic statements about deporting the AJ defendants . There is only 1 foreigner in the cage among 7 defendants sentenced in the case and its not me. I am a proud and stubborn Portsaidi, and I will not leave Egypt and will fight until I prove my my innocence. Let it be known to the world, that only a fraction of this case is about freedom of speech, but the bulk of it is about the bigotry between Egypt and Qatar and I am just caught in the middle. If anyone is listening, and wants to help just help us get back into the appeals court as soon as possible. Journalists live to cover the story at any cost, but when the journalist becomes the story, you know something is really wrong. Lots of love to all freedom fighters out there, whatever your cause may be. Mohamed Fadel Fahmy
