monday january 27 445am// wind chill warning for all counties until 9am wednesday mornin// winter storm warning until 6am today// the chicago areas will not get anymore snow today:: this is still up due to blowing snow which is causing whiteout conditions in most areas that are more open outside of chicago itself// the current reading is -2 in the oak lawn area with a 21 below wind chills dekalb is showing a 27 below wind chill// most expressways in the city are ok as of now// i57 still closed from manteno and chabanse due to whiteout conditions all others are open// i 65 in indiana is very bad now:: it is open they say it is very tough driving// the expressway from the illinois border to michigan city is not safe:: it is very icy near cline avenue near gary this is the same expressway that had the huge pileup the other day near laporte// indot is asking that you only drive these expressways if you absolutely have to// this goes for most expressways in chicagos suburbs with blowing snow some whiteout problems and black ice// they have been out all night trying to treat these roads:: the salt and chemicals do not work when it is this cold// assume that black ice and the road is slick:: it likely is:: especially bad are bridges overpasses and elevated roads like 294// the national weather service is also advising you not to drive if you can help it and if you have to drive the expressways to have your tank filled:: your window washer fluid full:: have a winter blanket:: food like a candy bar if that is what you have and water to drink in case you get stranded// many people were stuck in indiana the other day for over 6 hours and they were not involved in the accident// metra and cta say to expect delays the equipment does not work properly in these low wind chills// even if your train or bus is running:: they will be at reduced speeds// south shore line is only running chicago to michigan city// from south bend they cant run the trains and are using shuttle buses for that part of the route// this weather will be with us until at least wednesday morning// if you see no updates please use the links in the comments below this//
