The French-Tunisian defender, who was a free agent after leaving Southend, has played in every game of Rangers’ pre-season campaign on a trial basis. The 26-year-old is not eligible to feature in a competitive game until 1 September, when the Scottish League One club’s transfer embargo expires. He told RangersTV: “I’m very happy to sign for Rangers. I have agreed for two years and I think it is a chance to prove that I can play in the top league and be a part of the squad. “It would be amazing to be one of the players who help Rangers back to where Rangers belongs.” Mohsni added: “It’s a great squad with a great atmosphere so I’ve enjoyed it a lot because all of the players welcomed me very quickly. I felt like part of the squad from the first day so I’m very happy to sign and stay with that team. “Sometimes when you feel happy like that you play better and I felt that way from the first day so maybe that helped me decide to stay.” Meanwhile, Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell insists the Ibrox men will be in safe hands if his understudy Scott Gallacher is handed the No1 jersey for the season opener with Albion Rovers. Ally McCoist’s team will face League Two outfit Rovers at Livingston in the Ramsdens Cup first round unable to play all of their seven summer signings. McCoist plans to field new arrivals as trialists until the ban expires on 1 September. However, Scottish Professional Football League rules mean that only two trialists can be fielded against tomorrow’s opponents. That has left McCoist to decide whether former Kilmarnock goalkeeper Bell will make his debut or start instead with reserve Gallacher. But Bell insists his 24-year-old rival – who McCoist plans to send out on loan once a replacement is signed – is good enough to do a job between the sticks. He said: “Scott has been fantastic to work with. I saw him a few times in reserve matches last season and he is a very good goalie. He just needs games under his belt, so I know it’s not an easy ride for me, whether it’s Scott or someone else who comes in. Scott’s got great ability and I have no doubts he will do well in the games. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him.” Bell quit Rugby Park at the end of his contract in May but he may find himself playing only a bit-part in the first month of the new campaign. Only players moving from Scottish sides can play as a trialist – ruling out Ricky Foster, Stevie Smith, Arnold Peralta and Mohsni. None at all are permitted in the second round of the lower-league tournament or against Forfar in the first round of the Scottish League Cup. And in League One, just two trialists are permitted in any game, but each individual can only play three games before they must be registered, leaving McCoist with a juggling act as he selects his team. McCoist admitted he has been left frustrated by the terms of the rules governing trialists and says he will have to pay careful attention to who can play and when. “It’s extremely difficult for us. It’s far from ideal. We will have to get it right because I don’t have any doubt we will be punished if we don’t,” he said. “We will have to sit down and go through the administration side of it in terms of the rules meticulously. “But compared to what we went through last year, it is something we can handle. Not ideal but at least we know where we are and we will just have to handle it.”
