my tears matter: Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll (wineskin)--are they not in your record?--Psalm 56:8 Looking back in Scripture it is very clear that God sees our tears, struggles and sorrow. God saw Hagars rejection, Hannahs barrenness, and Hezekiahs life threatening illness. In fact, God told Isaiah regarding King Hezekiah: Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and SEEN YOUR TEARS; I will heal you.--2 Kings 20:5 What an inspiring thought that God not only heard Hezekiahs prayers but actually saw his tears, promising healing. But this truth is a little deeper than just that God sees our tears. David not only suggests God sees but that He actually records our tears, writes them down, and lists them on a scroll of sorts. What an amazing thought. Our cries are so treasured by God that He intentionally makes a thoughtful record of each tear. Not one tear is forgotten. Even more compelling is that in the Hebrew the word scroll is literally wineskin or bottle. The significance, I believe, is that our tears are so precious to God that He doesnt just record our cries, He keeps every tear in His divine wineskin. A wineskin preserves and keeps wine. Our tears and cries for the lost, for loved ones, for healing, for daily bread, and for the Kingdom of God are preserved forever in Gods wineskin. God sees. God cares. God records every cry. God bottles up each tear until His grace, mercy, love, healing, power, joy, deliverance, provision and salvation is poured out like the finest and sweetest of wines! My tears matter to God.
