India is ranked 135 in Human Development Index, HDI report which was released by the United Nations Development Programme,UNDP in Tokyo today. Accoding to the report, the countrys ranking in the HDI remained unchanged at 135 out of 187 countries in 2013, reflecting little improvement in the living standard of its people. The report also mentioned that Indias HDI value for 2013 is 0.586 which falls in the medium human development category. Between 1980 to 2013, Indias HDI value increased from 0.369 to 0.586. The report further said that India is the lowest performing country among the BRICS nations in all categories of the HDI with the exception of life expectancy, which is lower in South Africa as a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. 2. The Government is making all efforts to control river water pollution. Environment and Forests Minister Prakash Javadekar said this in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday during zero hour. He said steps will be initiated to contain untreated industrial, domestic and agricultural affluents polluting the rivers. Proper action would be taken against the erring industries along the river banks. He said so far 45 such industries have been issued with closure notices. 3. No proposal to create Indian Medical Service:Govt has not taken any step to create an Indian Medical Service, close on the lines of IAS and IPS, for super specialist doctors, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. 4. Govt to set up ultra mega solar projects in Raj, Guj, MP :With an aim to generate renewable energy, Government has plans to set up ultra mega solar power projects in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. 5. Govt plans to set up Sports University in Manipur :The government plans to set up a Sports University in Manipur as part of its development programme for the North-Eastern region, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. 6. Saturns Moon has thicker atmosphere than Earths :The atmosphere of Saturns largest moon Titan is 1.6 times denser near the surface than Earths air, scientists have found. 7. Malabar exercise not aimed at containing China: US The annual India-US bilateral Malabar naval exercise which kicked off in the Asia Pacific region is not aimed at containing China, the Pentagon has said. 8.
