nice day teaching lessons and a bareback ride on Duke !! (so if you read my post from yesterday, today, I picked Duke) :) I do love that horse !!! I watched as a new student worked thru some frustration and some fear issues today -- yes, it does look easy -- until you get in the saddle and you have to steer that 1000 pound beast around -- and yes you get a little unconfident sometimes but, if you dont give up and give in to the waves of uncertainty that wash over you, you will slowly build confidence as your leadership skills improve -- its a process and weve all been there at some point -- give it a few more lessons and as you become better at steering -- and keeping your eyes looking up and in the direction you want to go, those frowns of frustration usually turn into smiles of triumph :) I also watched another student who had been struggling with the canter put it all together this afternoon and do a really nice well put together canter on the 20 meter circle without breaking gait, without losing the horses shoulder, all the while maintaining good balance and looking very comfortable transitioning back into the posting trot. Well done Rachel, well done !!!!!! When I see where a lot of these students were in their riding when they started and know how hard they have worked, its a high five , jump for joy, bursting at the seams happiness that I feel when I see their excitement, the sparkling eyes, and the huge smile on their face when they realize that the pieces of the puzzle just fell into place and that thing that they have worked so hard for ends up feeling great and looking like poetry in motion. You go girls -- every ride is another opportunity to get better and Ill be there to cheer you on !!! :)
