not too sure if the photos are clear enough but this tree has been planted incorrectly. If you notice the interior growth has all but disappeared and what is left is wilty. The tree was planted about 4-5 years ago. It takes about that long to realize that you got screwed when you pay roughly $80 per foot of planted height. The basket that hold the root ball together was left in tact and they stuck it in the ground about 6-8 inches too deep, by themselves, either error can be fatal to this tree that cost about $600 to install but here we have both problems so the jury is still out as to whether anything I do will help but I dug this and 9 others on the property up to free the root ball and change the drip. The customer will end up paying almost as much to "save" her trees as she did to plant them.....the company that installed them has kept me very busy the last couple of years because this practice is very common in their landscapes and the standard line is "last year it did great but all of sudden died this year" .....thank you hilltop for all of the business that comes my way because you spent the last 4-5 years planting improperly
