notice that Sailor is now more patient with me on our trail walks. Yesterday the air was so crisp and clear, patches of sunlight filtered through the woods as we walked and I loved the sunshine on my face. We had the whole trail to ourselves and we walked the full length in peace. I pick willow sometimes when I walk and have to go off trail into the bush to get at the clumps of alder and willow that have top or side shoots of the willow I need. I now have enough for about 25 people to make a basket at our next willow workshop hopefully in the late winter. Each time I leave the trail Sailor lays down and waits for me. In past years, he would follow me in and lay his ball in the snow and bark at me to throw it for me. It used to annoy me. Now he lays on the packed trail and works at the ball in his mouth and looks at me like an old guy - you know like the ones waiting on the benches outside in the mall hallways while their wives shop. I always felt sorry for those guys. I love my old dog and while we may not have much longer together, I will cherish this time. Thank you Creator for life, trails and old dogs.
