ok So i just finished the first chapter for my fantasy project wanna read ? well i have to warn you this is the first draft, lots for revising left to do but any way enjoy CHAPTER ONE The Shadows Danced as the light of Lexai’s lantern Illuminated the branches of route 25. All the people in Osiris had warned her not to walk the route in darkness, she knew full well that the chances of her actually making it to Persephone were slim but necessity called for it. She had left her mother confined to bed, when she had gone to Osiris to see her father. She had hoped that he would have a place for her in his life, but there had been no such thing. Now she was faced with homelessness when her mother died. “ It can’t be much farther now” she said passing the three km mark, “ whoof” the sound came from the side of the road, the dog was small but he looked fierce. “ O you look about as bad as me little dog” Lex considered for a second before reaching in to her robe and pulling out her last ration of bread, she tore more than half off and started for the dog “ try this it’s a blend of mold and fungus really tasty” the dog didnt find it funny. She squatted on the ground and let the dog tear in to the bread “ you know I chased off two saber Thoth’s and a rabid arangatang” the dog looked up from his tearing “ don’t ask”. A bear second pass and Lexai thought the dog would go back to chewing the bread, instead he lunged for her she barely managed to gasp out “ By the hair of Pratt”. As The dog try’s to open Lexai’s skin he starts changing, Lex tries to wriggle him off “ What the hell are you dog ?”. After a moment has passed the dog is no longer there, a boy just a few years younger than Lex has taken its place. The unexpected wait sends them stumbling toward the trees on side of the road “ wraf warf “ yelled the boy as he tried for Lexes bare flesh. The girls legs blur as she swipes the boy of his feet and sends him slamming down in to a sharp looking branch. Flesh punctures and scarlet starts flowing out of the boy’s chest Lex stairs at him for a quiet second and then it happens. The Trees on either side of the road are moved down as a horde of never ending rabid animals comes surging forward “ lords save me “ then she was off, running as hard as she could for the city. Behind her the horde comes to a sudden stop by the boy’s corpse and out of the mass of animals comes a man. He is wearing nothing but his skin “ arf arf Warf” when the boy doesn’t answer him right away he bends over to check on him. That’s when he sees the blood, molten rage flairs up in the horde behind them and they start to move again “ SJNRARK “ any and all movement stopped. The man barks out a command and two female forms come out of the horde and start seeing to his fatal wound. Lexai thoughts were all starting to jumble together “ I’m so close “ the girl panted out as she chanced a look back at the raving horde, to her surprise they were motion less “ o by the lords” she breathed out noticing the reason they weren’t moving. Meanwhile a cut left by the boys finger nail on the back of her leg steadily trickled drops of scarlet. The leader of the horde stood up and pointed to the girl and the town “ krak hrem hrall” by that point Lex had taken her queue and was off running. The west side of Persephone was protected by two bunkers each was populated by fifteen of the city guard. Master Sargent Stratis Carnivore had commanded bunker 1w for most of two years, in that time his biggest task had been fending off drunken merchants and lepers. Stratis walked out side with his petty officer, they were on a routine check of the road, which was a code name for smoke break. “Do you think anything interesting is going to happen tonight Rictus” the petty officer lit his senior commander’s rett “No sire this is going to be an easy going evening” A few seconds later Lexai Got in shouting range “ RASE THE GATE MOBILSE THE GARRISON THEIRS A HORDE COMING” the two men spun around bringing their guns up to bear. Some men handle well under sudden pressure, Rictus was one of those men. Startis however was not “ what the Pratt is that” he screamed as she started to make a run for the bunker. Rictus grabbed his shoulder “sir that’s an enemy I need your atourisation to mobilize the squad” Stratis couldn’t say any thing so he settled for a nod. The next minutes was Rictus mobilizing the squad, the men came sprinting out of the bunker careening sentries and an assortment of things that made bad spirits go away. Lexai barely managed to bolt over the railing before the gate was razed. One of the guards almost shot her as she was climbing down “ Hold it “ called one of the others and the man went back to mounting the sentry. Lexai darted pass the guards, she was orienting on her mother’s house when Stratis came over to her “ I don’t know who you are but you need to tell me what the hell those……” Startis was cut off by the thunder of the sentry. When the sentry had run out Stratis said “ do you understand” “What ?” it took him a second but he realized she hadn’t heard him so he gave her the short version “ no matter how good strong and able me and the boys look we cant hold off a horde, The garrison needs to be mobilized and the city lord needs to talk to an eye witness.” “ You’ve seen them to why isn’t your testimony valid” a look of pain shoot across Stratisis face “ its not important, will you come with me or not” Lexai considered for a moment. She was going to tell him yes thinking her mother could wait while she ran to the city palace but before she could say the words everything went black. Stratis barely managed to catch her before she could paint the stone red. “ o lords, Rictus I need a stretcher and an escort” The petty officer was helping carry a sentry out of the second bunker “ why would you need that” Startis pointed at the limp girl in his arms. Rictus shook his head “ I’m needed hear you take her” “Leave this to Jade and Sid they can handle it” Rictus cursed under his breath then ordered two of the closest men to get a stretcher meanwhile he went and spoke to the commanding officers of bunker 2 direct to flow of men all the while the sentries pulsed out a steady flow of death. The men nodded and Rictus came over to help the other two get the Girl on to the stretcher. The cry’s of the dying horde shake the ground under the feet of Stratis and his men “ so where are we going sire ?” asks one of the men carrying Lexai “ The palace” no more words were spoken. “Del I have it great Pratt I have it man” Delyolia looks up from his scribbling “ have what sire”. Lord Andrew Card flipped to the last page of the Cinnamon Glacier and kept reading “ Alexis is going to end up with Alex, I should have seen it coming”. Delyolia ponders for a second “ great is there anything else before I leave?” the high lord of Persephone threw the book across the room “ yes send word to the book shop and------- “ “Tell them to reserve the next book” finished the servant as he walked out the door. Andrew got up from his bed and paced “ if Johnathan is dead, Alexis and Alex have stapled their love, who well be left for the Bixbee sisters they are to protagonists for gods sake “ after some time yelling Andrew jumps in to the air kicking at one of the four support beams for his bed ( his fear of rats got him to make him self an elevated bed) The wood breaks with a loud snap, and as it does he sends a fist shaped Coolum of air in to the other support beam. The bed falls down right in on to the spot were Andrew had planned to land, his legs had been expecting hard floor, the sudden mushiness of the bed made them give out completely and send the high lord of Persephone face first in to the iron floor. “By the lords, I’m late for the conclave” Andrew got up and clawed at the paper sticking to his face. Delyolia had apparently forgotten to remind him of the lords conclave in Osiris “ Del you and I are going to have words “ said the bruised lord as opened his closet and started trying to find his conclave robe. On the west side of town the horde rammed in to the gate causing the surrounding houses to shake. Jade commander of Bunker 2 had led a group of men to evacuate the surrounding houses and left his petty officer Sid in charge. “ Alright as soon as the budge give it to them” the sentries steamed with effort but they managed to push the horde far back enough for Sid men to fire rockets in to fray. Thundering Explosions were added to the couchony of sound “ sire if they hit us like that again the gate is going to fall” said one of the men as he pushed the last belt of ammunition in to one of the sentries “ then we just have to make sure that they don’t hit us again” Sid could see the moral fading “ boys it can’t be much longer” the remark didn’t reassure anyone. Eight set off feet slide across the iron floor of the entrance way to The lords palace “ Where is he” Stratis shook the maid one more time “ where the hell is he.” Jaqulix Titanis Mab had been head maid of the palace for longer then Stratis had been alive, and by many a counts she did not like being yelled at ( most of these counts came from the Lord himself). “Blood and ashes boy did your mother never teach you how to properly talk to a Lady” she said slapping him on the temple. Rictus sighed and came over to them “ Miss where could we possibly find Lord Andrew” the little woman visibly lit up “ he’s in his room reading the newest Cinnamon Bixbee novel” Rictus thanked her and they were off. Andrew had sent one of his lesser servants to prepare his carriage “ William is going to kill me” he muttered under his breath. The door to his sub room burst open and the group of guards almost slammed in to him, before they managed it Andrew had raised his hand and yelled HALT. The air around them instantly turned into carbondixoide stopping them flat as it did. “Who the hell are you lot ?” He asked letting life back in to the air. Startis managed coughed out “ City guards from bunker 1w “ “Here to bring you an eye witness to confirm the horde attacks” added Rictus. Some thing visually changed in Andrews posture. “ Where is this eye witness” he said gravely, the two men carrying the stretcher took their q (note find the correct spelling) and Brought Lexai’s limp body forward, Andrew eyed the girl “ Boy you better not have brought me a mute bird” “That’s just it sire she just suddenly collapsed and we were hoping you could find what was wrong with her” Andrew bent down and looked Lexai up and down before settling on the back of her leg. He dabbed his fingers in back of her damp robe, they came away wet, He tasted it “ This tells me two things, 1 she got in a fight with one of the horde youngs, 2 you all are complete idiots” he stood up and slapped Startis on the back of the head “ I mean how do you go about missing the blood coming out of her leg” All the guard stair’d down in shame. After closing the wound and sending her to the doctor for a transfusion Andrew and the lords started talking. “ Now that blood had a faint taste of nikkle in it, that says horde to me so will you lot do me the honor of taking the order to mobilize to the garrison, while I go to the west gate and slow there advance. “Not possible sire I’m coming with you” Said Rictus checking the ammo on his gun, Andrew looked at him for a second before turning to Stratis “then your coming to” Stratis started to protest Andrew razed a hand for silence “ the stretcher boys can handle the message, besides ill be needing a massage on the way.” Startis looked disgusted At the stretcher boys “ well take the message to Garrison sire” and with that they were off for the royal carriage Andrew Laughed like a manic. The sound metal makes when its compressed to nothing ness by brute force is not a pleasant one. “Retreat” called Sid as the horde finalized their destruction of the gate with a murderous charge (***) “ fall back, fire pattern two keep it loose, where slowing them down as much as possible” call Sid in to the Fray. Wheels crunched dirt as the royal carriage passed over the road leading to the west entrance, inside sat Stratis, Rictus, and the lord of the wind Andrew Card. They could start to hear the sound of battle now, Rictus looked out his window expecting to see the grouping of house his wife was in, instead he saw Sid running at a slow speed forward stopping occasionally to fire. Rictus opened the door telling the driver to slow “ how long since they broke trough ?” Sid squeeze off two shots hitting A rhino square in the head and temple. “ Five minutes maybe more.” What was left of the bunker 2w squad came running past, Rictus took his q stepped out took aim and fired. The thunderous roar of Rictuses gun seemed insignificant compared to the horde but he was still moving them down “ Lord, Sire I require some assistance were here” Andrew all but jumped out the carriage and despite his poor performance in the bedroom he stuck the landing. “ Rictus would you mind dragging that ponce into the carriage” he was referring to Sid who had caught a stray from one of the city guards. Andrew Raised his hand and did his best mimic of a spear. The Horde picked up speed moving forward faster than before. They were a meter from the group when Andrew yelled at the top of his lungs “ NERE EURUM DE CAELO ( PITCH THIS TO SIS)” a cyclone came down from the sky and hit the horde right in its center sending raving animals spinning in to the air out over the house on either side of the road. Before they could land Andrew sent fist shaped columes of air to meet them and send them flying yelling as he did “Ventus Framea” The horde was stopped for now, The room is painfully white, the walls are deprived of any life. Patients with illnesses of various degrees lay on cots spread up against the walls . Lexai is laying on a cot by the window, a tube painted red with her blood runs in to her arm. “ What where am I, Stratis” one of the passing nurses hears her and comes over. „Try not to flail around to much missy. might knock your iv out” she sais checking the heat of her fore head. Lexai looks around seeing what happened to her cloths “ White, its not enough that the room is white,” she looks down to confirm her suspicions “ and the floor, the robs also have to be white” the nurse gave her a disapproved look “ you really are some thing, the others whine about the food and the treatment, but you, you whine about the color of all things.” she finishes rambling then proceeded to check her vitals “ hurh” she said using her disapproved voice once again “ you’ll live”. Lexai glared daggers after her, “you got off lucky” the voice was coming from the cot next to her “ do that again and she will shove a bar of soap down your throat” Lexai Looked over at the cot expecting to find a young man or woman. So the surprise that struck her face when she saw that the man in question was at least seventy years old. “ is it really that bad here?” the old man tried to raise himself up but after some moments of trying he settled for just turning to look her in the eye “old Jaqulix will do a lot worse if you keep getting on her nerves” the patients around them murmured in agreement. “This is total hua!! i demand some real food “ the voice was coming from one of the cots up the line from Lexai “ what’s going on.” the old man put a finger over his lips telling Lex to be silent. “ Mister Yamaguchi this is your third offence how do you plead” there was a short silence while The man thought “ how often do i have to repeat myself my name is Edwin Charles Yamaguchi i am the high lord of Light fall” the man said in a voice of someone repeating a sentence for the millionth time. “ As i told you mister i don’t care if you’re the lord of amistris, while you’re in my med center you will behave.” she said as she reached for a white bar marked soap as she was about to give Edwin his daily serving of soap the doars burst open. A woman marched inside followed by a group of guards “ Edwin, where are you. I dont give up that easily mister.” Upon hearing the voice of his wife Edwin Ripped his Iv line out and showed it in to Jaqulixes side. Increasing the flow of morphine “ what the” she said as the miracle drug started working its magic. On her way to the floor Jaqulix hit her side on Edwins Cot the morphine worked fast but not that fast. The cry of pain Sent the woman running for the sorce “ Edwin !!!!”. She came upon the source “Edwin why do you do this to me my love.” Lexai just stared in awe, The woman ordered the guards to pick Jaqulix up they started to drag her out of the room but the woman remained by the cot for a second. The guards dragged Jaqulixes limp form from the room one remained by the door “ my lady we need to go” She cried a single tear that landed on the cot before leaving. “ Miss” Lexai looked on to the floor where the voice was coming from “ Mind if i bunk under you” Lexai just nodded.
