ok-disclaimer: I agree with what this professor and working master - TopicsExpress

ok-disclaimer: I agree with what this professor and working master artist is saying. However, a few things to clarify. I have looked at his work and find it a bit didactic, in all the wrong ways, but technically sound and aesthetically unobtrusive. I believe in technical skill, if you going for gorilla art, cool, but have enough skill to choose to produce poorly for aesthetic purposes or in order to make a statement. Keep in mind that old master art was driven by the church and limited freedom in the way of expression. Also keep in mind that the modern shift in art was begun by impressionist but finished by da-da ist and modernist. That being said, there was still and continues to be a lot of good art being made today. I think some graffiti is artful in a world where we are responding to our surroundings and are trying to find our own humanity (no different than gas lamps and inner psychology making their debut in impressionism and post-impressionist works). That also being said, I agree with the professor, too many hacks like being artist more than making art and have found it easy to survive and be said hacks. In the end, todays work is more about expression and critical thought. The trouble is that we (we are looking to our superiors for guidance here) are lacking the proper attention on the artist who bleed for their work and giving too much attention to those who simply do not disserve nor work for it and it is destroying the general publics, and some artist, faith in the craft. Ive always said; THE GAP BETWEEN CONCEPT AND CRAFT IS INTEGRITY. If you dont give them a reason to have it, why bother.
