one of my favorite dances is the Ikariotikos or Kariotikos from, - TopicsExpress

one of my favorite dances is the Ikariotikos or Kariotikos from, of course, the island of Ikaria in the eastern Aegean. A true soul dance which allows for the individual dancer, even if not in the lead position, moments of internal and external expression. So it is my pleasure to share this suite of dances from Ikaria, a sort of variants on a theme, presented by the Olympian Dancers of Long Beach, CA. For me, in contrast to the usual way so many cultures present their dances on stage, as a sort of bad imitation of Radio City Music Hall or a Las Vegas chorus line along the parameters set by the Moiseyev Ballet, the Olympians, along with many other Greek American (and Canadian American) troupes have chosen to take the road less traveled: to spend the time and patience to teach their dancers how to actually dance as living, breathing human beings with emotion, and not overly trained military precision robots, as was once, and in many ways still is, the preferred aesthetics of state and non-state ensembles of many especially East European countries, with fake smiles plastered on their faces dripping with an overabundance of make-up (ooops, my prejudices are showing, I really had meant to keep the post more neutral....oh well). So please sit back and enjoy this window onto another world (I hope to post and share with you more of my favorites from the world of Greek dance) https://youtube/watch?v=YUQy98qjcJE&list=UUokJPgMNFEXuNIlkY7pAFJw
